Philosophy

I enjoy living day to day in cotton knit clothing. Cotton feels good against my skin; it is comfortable in all temperatures and launders beautifully. Knit fabric, rather than woven, has stretch that moves with my body—eliminating the binding and restriction that is common in woven garments.

Through the clothing of Egyptian Cotton Tshirts, I get to share this comfort with you.

After all, our skin is a living system and what touches it matters.

I have had an interest in fabric since my high school days when I began sewing. Combined with my scientific nature—observing both the big picture and the smallest details—I have obsessed over colors, quality, and fit.

In 2016, I worked with a pattern-maker and four X-Large fit models to develop quiet armholes, ease through the back shoulders, a modest taper to the waist, and a gently curved hem for our Essential Crew.

Each iteration included:
  • Adjust the pattern
  • Sew a prototype
  • Shrink the garment at a commercial dye house
  • Reassess the result on the four fit models

Garments change after laundering, so if a fit is to last beyond one wear, laundering needs to be a part of the process.

Fit Example

Many shirts are developed using a medium-sized fit model and scaled outward. They commonly have a straight-sided silhouette. My research showed that real bodies have shape—requiring a modest taper to the waist and ease through the right areas.

In the interest of less restriction, our sleeves have slightly more length and circumference. The neckline is designed to avoid tension—favoring comfort across body types.

The image shows how the Essential Crew falls on the body.

In addition to comfort, it is important to look good. The fabric flows naturally over the body, and the styling is designed to flatter.

Our color palette is intentionally less saturated, making it complementary across a wide range of skin tones. Our sizing and proportions are designed to provide comfort and ease for a broad range of adult body types.
